Academic Advising for the Sciences

Hey girl, planning your classes takes time, even when you think you've got it all figured out… trust me, it's always better to get another opinion. Just like getting someone else to do your taxes, it is always beneficial to have an advisor look over your schedule. But sometimes, advisors are constantly booked up or unavailable until after you need to enroll in classes. While it looks rather impossible to meet with your advisor, there are other ways you can plan your class schedules!

The science advising center? Where was it again?

The “advising center” you are looking for is the College of Sciences Student Success Center located at the GMCS building in room 429! It operates Mondays - Thursdays from 9 am - 4 pm, and VIRTUALLY on Fridays from 9:30 am - 4 pm. Can not make it to any of these times? We got you! The CoS Student Success Center offers evening virtual advising Mondays - Thursdays from 6 pm - 7 pm too! At the CoS Student Success Center, we offer more than just the usual academic support location on campus.

That’s not all, the College of Sciences Student Success Center covers Biology undergraduate advising as well! Biology undergraduate advising located at NLS in room 102; operating Mondays - Thursdays from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm, and VIRTUALLY on Fridays from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm (closed 12 pm - 1 pm).

The CoS Student Success Center welcomes and supports advising for all majors, however, it is always suggested that you visit YOUR major department advisor for personalized support.

You can find all this information on the SDSU CoS SSC website as well.

Meet a Peer Advisor!

The CoS Student Success Center is more than just your major and professional advisors, it has Peer Advisors as well! As a fellow Peer Advisor, we aid in:

- Locating campus resources

- Answering any general questions regarding classes and majors

- Serve as a liaison between students and faculty/staff, advisers, and other campus entities

- Looking into different class options and exploring new and/or continuing majors or minors

- Course/schedule planning

- On-campus opportunities as we become aware of it

What can you do at the CoS Student Success Center?

The CoS Student Success Center provides a supportive study space where students can hang out between classes and/or get academic advice. Come visit us sometime and make use of the ample resources we can offer!

The College of Science Student Success Center is there for you when you need it. It offers class planning, academic resources and opportunities, and support to best help you during your semesters at SDSU.

Lots of Love,

Lani
